Attractive Danube: Final conference in Slovenia

From May 28-29 the final conference of the Attractive Danube project took place in Postojna, Slovenia. Project partners and invited stakeholders from research, business and public institutions joined to discuss the synergies and trade-offs of attractiveness and sustainability in the Danube region and to stress the challenges of climate protection.

Keynote speaker Prof. Lučka Kajfež Bogotaj from the University of Ljubljana highlighted the actual socio-economic trends and the limits of our ecosystems and concluded that in the long-term only a sustainable region can be attractive region.

Jasna Gabrič, Mayor of Municipality of Trbovlje, selected in the list of top 100 mayors of World Mayor Honours and elected the youngest Slovenian mayor in 2014 with 33 years presented the specific defiances of her region regarding economic growth and environmental shortcomings and which strategies have led to the best solutions.

During the final discussion the participants emphasised that the instruments that were designed during the project such as TAMP and CO-TAMP are very useful to identify and to monitor the different trends of regional development. It is therefore important that the data will be collected and updated until 2021.

The conference ended with a fantastic tour of the Škocjan caves and surrounding protected area.

Workshop „Geodaten und Indikatoren zur Darstellung regionaler Attraktivität“, 15. Mai 2019

Attractivity, social entrepreneurship and migration at aiforia 2019

The new year has long started and the team of aiforia officially opened it with a joint dinner to appreciate what 2018 has brought in developments, and to toast to the key topics of 2019: attractivity, social entrepreneurship and migration shall be at the core of our work. These keywords represent the INTERREG- project “Attractive Danube” (www.interreg-danube.eu/approved-projects/attractive-danube) which we will conclude with two more capacity building seminars in Regensburg and Freiburg, and the new INTERREG- project “See Me In” (Social Entrepreneurship as an enabling Environment for Migrants’ Emplyoment and Integration) which will see the kick-off this spring.
We are also proud that our “Study Visit Friburgo” campaign (studyvisitfriburgo.it) is continuously attracting Italian pupils and teachers to “migrate” to Freiburg for a week-long insight to our Green City. In the February update for official eco-tour guides like aiforia, city officials have revealed the latest developments and future plans which we feel honoured to share with interested visitors – not only pupils, but students, planners, technicians, or citizens the like. Get in touch with us to learn more about our tours, seminars and projects!

INTERREG network meeting in Munich

Transnational cooperation offers on-site solutions: Organised jointly by the Ministry of Economy Baden-Württemberg and the Ministry of Finances Bavaria, the National Danube Contact Points of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, project partners of the INTERREG program of Central Europe and the Danube Region came together on September 26th in Munich for an INTERREG network meeting.

This event gave the opportunity to meet project partners and institutions from running INTERREG projects and to learn about best practices about the implementation and dissemination of project results. aiforia joined the meeting with a presentation of the project “Attractive Danube”.

The representative of the Federal Institute for Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Research presented a newly published study about the capitalisation of project results from the INTERREG programm within cities and communities. See more (in German): click here.

Within the open and interactive forum in the afternoon, the participants discussed about the most interesting topics of the upcoming INTERREG calls: urban and regional development, environment and mobility as well as the greatest challenges of the project realisation: financial and administrative issues, finding the adequate partners, communication with target groups and dissemination of results.

Finally, an outlook to the expected thematic and structural changes of the next funding period was given.

Project co-funded by European Union funds (ERDF, IPA).

E-Learning platform published

Two years can bring a lot of development; this is something which proved right at the final meeting of the ERASMUS+ project “Identities – much more than Cards”, held in Famalicao, Portugal. From the beginning of the project we recognised that there is a great variety of involved organisations and target groups in this endeauvour to develop training material for better integration of migrants. Involved partner organisations operate in Germany, Italy, Latvia, Luxemburg, Portugal and Turkey, and the respective target groups range from newly arrived asylum seekers to migrants of the recent decades, their origins in different countries and cultures all over the world. Thus challenging the project’s objective was to develop a somewhat common curriculum and material for intercultural understanding and integration to the respective culture of the new homes of the migrants.

But we lived up to the challenge! An online platform in 7 different languages is set up to serve as the common basis of activities and tool for individual learning

Communalities and differences were discussed in the exchange during the two-day project meeting at the end of July in Portugal and we all concluded: we are looking forward to continue the good experience in activities beyond the project closure!

Here you can find the link of the platform.
