Our activities
You're looking for a good way to improve your sustainability performance? Be reassured, you're not alone, and: you don't have to reinvent the wheel.
We have a history of working with local authorities - villages, towns, cities and regions – worldwide and help you to tap the vast pool of knowledge and local experiences accumulated worldwide.
aiforia facilitates exchange and knowledge transfer in different ways: we supports public authorities, private companies, universities, schools and other organisations within different activities. Find below the variety of activities, which we undertake for and with our partners.
Support for funded projects
For a local authority – or for any private or public entity - taking part in local and international projects offers many opportunities. LIFE+, INTERREG, Intelligent Energy Europe, EuropeAid, FP7 are only some of the many international programmes, which issue new calls for tenders every week. It is an effective and fascinating way for you to realise your own ideas, to discuss them with partners of different cultures, to learn alternative ways to solve problems, to market your organisation internationally, to meet new people and get to know different places. It may even be a way to fund your working resources.
aiforia supports your organisation all along the different steps of project realisation, from the development of the idea to the fund-raising, from the partners' search to the proposal writing, from the project implementation to the dissemination of its results.
Moreover for a longer-term partnership for exchange, aiforia also develops and coordinates multi-stakeholder projects to support mutual learning between different actors worldwide.

Local and international events
Workshops and seminars can create splendid opportunities for intensive, focussed exchange between different stakeholders, on different levels. We have the means to make your events efficient and worthwhile, be they participatory workshops, seminars, expert talks or larger conferences. In a result-oriented manner, we help you to define the appropriate concept for the event, draft the agenda, select and invite international experts, actively support the facilitation of exchange (through methods like world café, fish bowl, future search workshops, charrette etc.). All of this, of course, will be embedded in a strategy to make your event sustainable even in terms of resource consumption.
Peer to peer exchange
No way better to learn and improve than discussing your ideas with “critical friends” who are in a similar situation! Upon your specific request for information, we will find you a suitable exemplar to learn from and exchange with in a bilateral setting – virtually or through on-site visits. We coordinate the interaction with your peers, through the organisation of meetings, the exchange and adaptation of documents and the facilitation of reviewing processes.
Study tours
With our office located in the “green city” Freiburg / Germany we have the privilege to invite you to come and find out more about the sustainability hotspots of the city and region, such as: eco-model district Vauban, plus-energy buildings, integrated mobility concept, ecological farms, citizen-based eco-power stations, renewable energy applications and many more. We organise interactive tours and workshops for local authority representatives, councillors as well as NGOs, school classes etc., tailored to your needs and interests.
See in detail the study tours page.
Individual support
Sustainability is multi-faceted, and the paths to it are many, depending on the individual starting point and the ambition of public administrations, organisations, companies and individuals.
We offer support in the introduction and implementation of environmental and sustainability management systems, green procurement strategies, definition of indicators and targets, participatory processes beyond Local Agenda 21. Analysing your starting point, we help you to develop your strategy and give you practical support in making things change: training staff, reviewing documents, exploring and tailoring good practices, internal auditing according to EMAS and EMASplus.
As agents for sustainable ideas, we explore the world for you!
